Went for a lovely walk in the woods below Hardy's monument last week with the sun warming my face. The light at this time of the year still feels like a novelty after the dark winter days. My eyes just couldn't stop soaking all the information in.
Divert off the main track towards Winterbourne Steepleton and you pop out into the bright sunlight after the shade of the woods and have these amazing fields rolling up the side of the Combe. I just had to do a few sketches on my iPad there and then. Back to the studio and started this painting with large blocks of colour and the quickly got the energy of the trees in, whilst also using colour to catch the heat of the afternoon.
